Whose house was this?
I ought to know.
The knick-knacks,
the pictures on the wall,
the floorboards seem
like old friends
who’ve forgotten me—no,
who’ve turned cold,
who look away.
The hall doesn’t return my footsteps.
the doorknob won’t take my hand.
And I don’t know where
I left my name.
