in the garden of the gods
the god of the humans
is a parasitic vine
with carrion fruit
spreading thru the garden,
strangling the gods
of the redwood, the yew tree
and lignum vitae,
poisoning the gods
of the condor, the bison
and the bumblebee.
the gods with scales
and feathers and horns,
with roots and stalks
and flowers, with webs and shells
have no gods to pray to
for rescue.
the angels of the humans
weep
for their god’s victory
and their own demise.
