NaPoWriMo 2025 Day 10: Pierrot Today

Posted on April 10, 2025 By Mort Duffy

Pierrot Today

Pierrot has grown dull
with satisfied desires.
He does not know when the sun rises.
He does not know the moon’s phase.
He does not know the sorrows
of his many young friends.
The old are gone.
Hunger is estranged from him,
Thirst has forgotten his name,
and Lust turns away her face.
He sold his lute years ago,
the beginning of his good fortune.
He does nothing now but play
roulette, blackjack, craps.
He simply cannot lose.
